21st
Oslo, Spektrum
First show of the European tour. Robert Smith confessed they prefered to
start in Northern countries because the weather got better as the tour went
since they would travel to the South of Europe then. On the show itself,
A Forest's intro had extended guitar parts. The song also included extra
lyrics at the end.
23rd
Helsinki, Jäähalli
Quite a cultural shock : the shy audience remained almost
silent between the encores.
A Forest didn't have the extra lyrics that night.
25th
Stockholm, Globe
Quite a long concert compared to the previous nights, maybe the audience
was louder or the band were ready to give such a show by then. Cut included
some guitar part at the end of the song (instead of larsens-feedback to
be medleyed with End). Robert Smith also played a few chords from It's Not
You before TIB but wouldn't sing a few lines from the song yet.
26th
Gothenburg, Scandinavium
Rare playing of M. Simon Gallup performed most of A Forest kneeling down
on the floor. It was obvious to the band (but not to the audience) that
something was wrong. Robert Smith even revealed later he thought something
was going to happen before the tour reached Germany.
28th
Kobenhavn, Valbyhallen
Some improvised lyrics on From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea. The group
played The Figurehead in the encores for the first time in Europe.
01st
Rotterdam, Ahoy
Quite a different set list with a few songs never played before so far :
At Night, One Hundred Years and A Letter To Elise, those last two both included
an improvised verse despite being played during the soundcheck. The band
also rehearsed To Wish Impossible Things before the concert.
03rd
Gent, Flanders Expo
Play For Today was played for the first time of the tour. The second particularity
of the show were the bright lights that were projected onto the audience
for about 10 seconds on each of the songs. Some cameras were actually filming
the people to provide more audience shots for the Show video ! A Forest's
extra lyrics pleaded to "make me feel like yesterday".
04th
Dusseldorf, Philipshalle
06th
Hamburg, Sportshalle
Simon Gallup was pretty static at this show and even played bass kneeling
down on the floor on some songs during the encores. He also left the stage
before the very end of A Forest... It was obvious he wasn't in great shape
that night, contrary to the previous concert in Dusseldorf where he seemed
almost fine. An extract of It's Not You was played and sung before In Between
Days for the first time of the tour.
08th
Bremen, Stadthalle
Robert Smith made a mistake by announcing Catch instead of Apart which made
the whole band to check with each other if they had the right setlist !
The show ended with Forever (a premiere that year) instead of A Forest.
Probably a last minute decision (to relieve some tension ?).
09th
Essen, Grugahalle
12th
Munchen, Olympiahalle
13th
Stuttgart, M. Schleyerhalle
The band tried Faith and played At Night and One Hundred Years again.
15th
Zurich, Hallenstadion
Robert Smith forgot an entire verse on One Hundred Years. So he had to improvise.
Worth mentioning were the guitar chords from Jumping
Someone Else's Train introducing
In Between Days. A Forest didn't end the usual way : Simon stopped playing
bass (and probably left the stage ?) and Robert went on making noise on
guitar for a minute.
17th
Lyon, Halle Tony Garnier
First night in France and an excellent show with Dressing Up and a great
Forever to finish. Robert Smith introduced songs in French sometimes as
well.
19th
Paris, Zénith
The Big Hand and To Wish Impossible Things were played for the first time
of the tour. A Forest's ending was quite dramatic with Simon throwing his
bass to the floor and leaving the stage full of anger. Apparently,
a technical problem was the reason why. Robert
grabed the bass and tried to finish the song but just improvised stuff instead
of the usual notes... Intense ending.
20th
Paris, Zénith
Back to an almost standard show but ending with a good version of Faith.
Lovesong was declared to be the "Suzanne Vega moment" of the show.
21st
Paris, Zénith
Unusual tracks like Shake Dog Shake (opening the concert), The Big Hand,
Apart, A Letter To Elise and Forever.
25th
Lausanne, Patinoire de Malley
Robert Smith apologised about not saying much. But he explained he'd "sing
rather than talk". WCIBY's extended part included a few notes from
Lovecats as well as the first sentence from the song. That started with
Porl playing the chords on guitar to the surprise of the rest of the band.
That was the only time on this tour this happened.
26th
Torino, Palasport
The show included a rare playing of To Wish Impossible Things but was very
shortened (less than two hours). It's probable Simon had big health problems
that night. A Forest extra lyrics refered to "Hunched all the way /
Always you'll know, always you'll understand."
27th
Firenze, Palasport
Slightly longer show than the later ones. Maybe to balance with the previous
night ? Why Can't I Be You was introduced as "I'm Definitely Not You
!"
29th
Roma, Palaeur
Long concert again with One Hundred Years, In Your House, Dressing Up...
The group tried The Drowning Man during the soundcheck and would end up
playing the song a month later (in the UK).
30th
Treviso, Palaverde
Little communication with the audience, like on most of this tour. Robert
had nothing much to say but the band delivered good performances. This show
was probably a bit shortened but included The Figurehead. A Forest didn't
include extra lyrics.
31st
Milano, Assago, Forum
Short concert and the last one with Simon Gallup on bass for a while (three
weeks actually). Lullaby was introduced as being the "almost perfect
song for Halloween". A Forest didn't include extra lyrics.
