OFFICIAL WEBSITES

The site thecure.com (actually the-cure.com by then) was launched on the 13th of July 1996. Roger O'Donnell did the design, him and Robert would maintain the site, updating it, deciding what to add etc... The "Cure's house", as it was called, offered plenty of different rooms to stop by. You were exploring the house where they recorded Wild Mood Swings (in Bath) after all.

The main floor included the Kitchen (where you would have access to everything you wanted to know about the tour they were doing, introducing the staff, giving details about equipment, what they have been up to, and some actual -and weird- reciepes from Robert himself !), the Library giving demos to listen to, guitar tabs, photos, lyrics, biography...

A chatroom was also included (the Conservatory) as well as a Bathroom for people to leave messages to the band. The Lounge gave videos and audio live recording while the Dungeon was a little prison for who ever the band didn't like for whatever reason, at the time Lol was a permanent resident, the German football team was once there (because of the Euro'96).

Upstairs, you would encounter each member's room. Putting up whatever they wanted to. Robert had lots of quotes (from writers etc...) and informations about his home equipment, Roger listed people he liked (Bjork, Smashing Pumpkins, Zappa, Erbie Hancock, Robert de Niro...). Jason had a note introducing himself (still).

A new version of the site was launched on the 21st April (!) 1997. Basically, sections names were changed, but remained similar and got developed as well, like the personal pages part.

The index was divided into "new" and "old". The novelty of that time were competitions to win prices ! One of them in 1998 was about picking up what "poisons" each member would drink on stage during the summer festivals (Roger -Coke, Robert -wine with orange juice, Jason -water, Simon -Lager and Perry -cider), in order to win a dedicated shirt. The "old" (ex Library) section added a diary written by Daryl Bamonte during tours, setlists from shows, the full transcripts of the Cure News 1987-98, TIB (a French fanzine) interviews of Robert Smith...

Bloodflowers' release in 2000 allowed the site to change again. The main page included the news, an archive (getting bigger and bigger), the "who are we" page still etc... the chat room was let down. The following year, with the release of the Greatest Hits, a micro site was put up, on curehits.com, it included lots of demos/live versions from the vaults to listen to ! Robert wrote the commentaries about each title.

The last versions were done in 2004 and 2008 with the new Cure album releases. Robert Smith appears to post in the community forum sometimes ! http://www.thecure.com - The disintegration remaster site was launched on May 14th 2010.
