01st
Roskilde, Festival
Noone in the audience heard the new songs before (the album not being released
yet). The band closed this first concert with Untitled, which included a
very long solo at the end, extending the regular length of the song. A thing
they wouldn't do after.
02nd
Stockholm,
Isstadion
Shoes were thrown on stage which made Robert to comment "first shoes
of the tour".
03rd
Drammen, Drammenshalle
Few technical problems on keyboards (Plainsong/Cold). As somebody threw
a shoe on stage (a Scandinavian thing ?), Robert Smith declared with sarcasm
that Simon wanted the pair. Why Can't I Be You included made up lyrics as
the regular ones were forgotten (a constant thing on this tour). The band
played The Figurehead instead of Three Imaginary Boys that night.
05th
Hamburg, Sporthalle
Faith was played for the first time of this tour. Strangely at the end of
the second encore and in a quite short version compared with how they'd
play it later. The other event of the night was the mess up on Let's Go
To Bed's intro.
06th
Heerenveen, Thialf Ijstadion
Things started to sound really good. On the second encore, Robert Smith
warned that the following song would test the audience's loyalty and explained
they couldn't do Give Me It despite the requests "because it's too
little to do in a big place" and announced The Figurehead ("much
better I'm sure"). Faith was dedicated to Shelleyan Orphan (the opening
act) and the extra lyrics refered to "we're so lucky to have so much
time / So save it up / Save it up and do nothing". The last lines came
from It's Not You lyrics ("if I had the alibi here in my hand").
07th
Bremen, Stadthalle
Close To Me's intro was pretty long as apparently there was some problem
with the keyboards. Robert sang an appropriate "I've waited hours for
this". To answer to constant requests, he declared "your wish
will come true in one song time, how can I say it more clearly ?" (talking
about A Strange Day that they'd try for the first time).
08th
Hannover, Eilenreedehalle
Three Imaginary Boys resurfaced. Robert revealed that weird fact before
Last Dance : "I can't sing in G". Faith extra lyrics were about
going away : "when you turn around / I'll be gone / It's when the game
starts for real".
10th
Brussels, Forest National
To reply to someone in the audience with a sign saying "where's Lol
?", Robert and Simon brought a banner on stage saying "He's not
coming back". Both Three Imaginary Boys and Figurehead were played
when Faith was dedicated to Mary (Robert's wife).
11th
Essen, Grugahalle
Robert dedicated Homesick to the band (already missing home ?). Technically,
the band's performance was slick by now but they didn't play The Figurehead
at this show. A Forest's guitar solo was much better than on the previous
tour : not too long and repetitive. Shoes were thrown again on the stage
to Robert 's annoyance.
13th
St Goarshausen, Loreley Festival
Excellent concert, same set list as in Brussels. Robert Smith dedicated
Just Like Heaven to "everyone who played yesterday" and Faith
was for Mary again. Last Dance was for Lol Tolhurst's wedding taking place
on the same day. At the end of the show, the Cure's singer also thanked
the audience for the "perfect day".
14th
Frankfurt, Festhalle
Robert was definitely a bit drunk or high that night. Was it the consequence
of the "drinking competition" they had with The Mission on the
previous day ? Lots of songs had changes in the lyrics and Disintegration's
beginning was messed up. Still a good concert though. Robert also had a
couple of weird manifestos : "that's why I wear elastic on my boots"
; "when you close your eyes, if you see dots... you must stop".
18th
Stuttgart, Schleyerhalle
"Don't finish stories that stayed unfinished" was the advice of
the day. But the most interesting were the extra lyrics on Faith, the line
"last day of summer" appearing several times.
19th
München, Olympiahalle
Premiere of Hot Hot Hot on this tour. The song would now be played on the
second encore as an alternative to A Strange Day, The Figurehead or Three
Imaginary Boys.
20th
Konstanz, Bodenseestadion
Keyboards problems on Plainsong. Just Like Heaven was dedicated to the Mission
(on the same bill) when In Between Days was for Shelleyan Orphan. Robert
started to cry on Faith and stopped singing actually. The microphone was
passed to the audience so people could shout whatever while the band would
still be playing. It all sounded quite scary actually but it gave one of
the most intense endings of the tour obviously.
21st
Zürich, Hallenstadion
Prior to the show, the band sent a roadie with a camera to film people from
the audience requesting songs they wanted to hear at the concert. Robert
didn't seem too satisfied with the sound of his microphone. At some point,
because of the feedback, he joked about that : "Ahhh, The Jesus and
Mary Chain..." Before the last encore, he also talk about how stupid
the Cure bootleg names were : "which is gonna be called something like
'I laugh, I laugh, I laugh, I saw the Cure -or something- Live in Zurich'.
Faith was excellent once more with reference to childhood and Christmas
: "when I thought : my life is a hat / I could put it on my head /
Walk out the house / Proud".
24th
Ljubljana, Tivoli Hall
Robert apologised as he didn't learn how to say a few things in the local
language. But people seemed to understand what he said despite his doubts
and the crowd was very enthousiastic. Faith was dedicated to "everyone
and for all the years we never ever came and played".
25th
Wien, Stadthalle
Another city and country they've never been to before. A good way for the
band to escape from the routine, not knowing how the audience would react.
26th
Budapest, Kisstadion
Robert declared he didn't "know any Hungarian unfortunately" therefore
he wouldn't talk much between the songs. Faith was for "what's gonna
happen here very soon".
30th
Athens, AEK Stadiou
The group was
happy to be back since their first coming to Greece in 1985 ("It's
refreshing to be back"). Robert had a word about the new album ("just
pretend you know it"). Maybe the record wasn't released at the time
in Greece ? Cold was introduced as "a million times more familiar,
like stars in the sky".
