What's your earliest memory ?
Robert
: I used to climb up one particular tree -a chestnut tree- and I used to sit in it for hours. I thought people couldn't see me. It's in my parents' garden. It's still there now and it only comes up to my chin. I used to think I was hiding in the sky -but of course everyone could see me I suppose.
- Have you got a pet ?
Robert
: I used to have a dog and it died. Then I had a rabbit and it died too. Now pets seem to mean "death" to me.
-
Can you remember your first day at school ?
Robert
: I sat next to a boy with strange hair. The top of his head looked like a hedgehog. My tooth was loose. The teacher called me to the front of the class and pulled my tooth out. I was very angry -I couldn't whistle and I couldn't talk properly.
- What did you use to dream about when you were young ? Did you have a great ambition ?
Robert
: I always wanted to be a magician. I had lots of books about magic but I couldn't do the tricks. I couldn't juggle either... I have no co-ordination.
- Do you like travelling ?
Robert
: I hate travelling by plane, but I enjoy visiting foreign countries. My favorite city in the world is Paris and it has been ever since the first time I went there on a school trip. Notre Dame has always been my favorite building. It's one of the few buildings in the world that has a real atmosphere. A similar place is the Temple of 1,000 Buddhas in Kyoto in Japan. Those buildings fill you with awe even if you don't follow that particular religion. I love Ireland too. The life style there is really slow. I used to think I could live somewhere like that.
- Do you like adventure on your travels ?
Robert
: Yes and no. We spent ten hours driving through the forest in Brazil. We could have taken a two-hour flight but we wanted to see more of the country. It's a totally dense forest and there is constant noise. There are snakes and huge spiders and so much colour... Later in Buenos Aires, we did a concert in a football ground. There were 20 000 people there. They set fire to the seats and they were all dancing. Outside there were several thousand fans who couldn't get into the stadium. The police came to send them away and it became a riot -the rioters set fire to the security men ; someone threw a bottle at me on stage !

Why does your lipstick go all over your face ?
Robert
: To put on lipstick carefully -that's vanity. I wear lipstick for theatrical effect.
- Who writes the songs for the Cure ?
Robert
: I used to write everything for the group. Now each member of the group goes away with one cassette and we all write as many songs as possible. Then we all get together and vote for all the songs. The songs with the top scores (out of 20) go on the new album.
