CURE
FM - The band's pirate party
Cure
FM took place on the 31st of August from the Fiction Records office. A flyer
distributed at the London's concert three weeks before announced the project.
Without giving the frequency to tune in to the band's "very own pirate
party" of course. And because of the nature of the set up, only Londoners
could catch the show.
Two professional DJs (from American radios) were invited to host the evening
with the band. Except first, at midnight (like planned) nothing was on air
due to technical problems (after all, it was pirate) and when they almost
gave up two hours later, it finally worked. Remixes from Mixed Up would be
broadcast, the djs interviewing each member of the band and sometimes these
would take control of the whole thing, introducing songs by other bands they
wanted to play... At some point, Perry chose a song from an obscur live recording
of Echo and the Bunnymen to the great amusement of Simon that understood Perry
actually taped the thing himself ! Which he wouldn't admit. Cure Fm closed
at 7am, after 5 hours of music, jokes, revelations... The last song that aired
that night was Never Enough, which they shoot the video for on the previous
night.
And a week later, they did it again. On the 6th September, Cure FM was reborn
(this time stopping at 3am). That was probably because lots of people missed
the first night. Still jokes, music on the program...and even the weather
forecast given by Porl ! The phone line was also opened, Simon would answer
the phone, "making new friends"...
