MAY

09th

Fairfax, Patriot Center
Quite a classic setlist to start the tour. World premiere of another new track : The Perfect Boy. Some technical problems on the background screens occured at this show : one of them stopped working. Fortunately, that was fixed after a while. Also, because of the delay, the show went past the imposed curfew. In theory, that meant a fine (workers union). But that wouldn't stop the band, not willing to drop the last encore to avoid that.

10th
Philadelphia, Wachovia Spectrum
Robert's voice wasn't so warm on the beginning but things improved greatly after some songs. Maybe that's why he wasn't very talkative as well (to concentrate on the singing). He also announced the first encore as follows : "despite the fact that it's Saturday night, we'll do something different". Always interesting to hear those rarely played KMKMKM tracks.

12th

Boston, Agganis Arena
Another new song was already played for the first time of the year : Sleep When I'm Dead. The track was already mentionned during an interview from the year before, and is based on an unreleased 1985 demo. As for the rest of the show, Wrong Number strangely appeared in the middle of the main set as well.

14th
Montréal, Centre Bell
Boys Don't Cry was introduced by Girl From Ipanema guitar chords. On the last encore, before getting ready for Freak Show, Robert Smith declared to the crowd : "This is the kind of moments where I'm supposed to have some kind of story to fill in the time..." No jokes anymore ?

15th
Toronto, Air Canada Centre
About the new songs, Robert Smith announced Sleep When I'm Dead as "sounds just like the fucking record" when Freak Show was declared as "definitely doesn't sound like the record". Boys Don't Cry was once more introduced by Girl From Ipanema guitar chords. Why Can't I Be You and Play For Today both included an improvised verse.

17th
Rosemont, Allstate Arena
Apparently, Robert Smith caught some "coldbugtypething" a few days before in Canada and that started to affect him that night. He even apologized for his "fucking voice being awful". A few songs suffered from that (especially WCIBY) but yet the show was played in its entirety !

19th
Kansas City, Starlight Theatre
Unfortunately, things got worse for Robert Smith's health. He was even told not to sing that night. But they didn't cancel the show and started with a new song not played before : Underneath The Stars. The rest of the concert had Robert really struggling to carry on singing. You have to admire such effort despite the pain (tea was brought on stage too). So, the concert wasn't the greatest due to his condition (without mentioning the self conciousness that probably resulted) but another new song was integrated to the set too : Baby Rag Dog Book (later known as It's Over). And the band playing live anyway was certainly better than nothing.

21st
Red Rocks, Amphitheatre
Fantastic outdoor setting. The screens weren't used, instead the images were projected on the rocks themselves. Robert Smith didn't fully recovered his voice but made the best of his condition. He also played "Sweet Home Alabama" guitar chords before Maybe Someday. alt.end wasn't played again (a difficult one to sing, better to avoid). Playing Plainsong/Disintegration as an encore was also a premiere this year.

23rd
West Valley City, Ford Theatre
Rare tracks were played that night (Other Voices, Catch, A Letter To Elise...). Robert Smith talked (instead of singing) on a few songs. Probably better to rest his throat a bit and not put the remaining dates in jeopardy but the show was very good as a whole really.

25th
George, Sasquatch Festival
Still a bit of throat problems unfortunately, which frustrated Robert as anybody can imagine. The heaviest songs weren't sung normally (From the edge of the Deep Green Sea, Shake Dog Shake, 100 Years...). Zia McCabe from the Dandy Warhols (also on the bill) came on stage on the second encore, on Boys Don't Cry, with a tambourine.

26th
Vancouver, Pontiac Bowl

28th

San Jose, HP Pavilion
No more voice problems, Robert fully recovered it, hitting the high notes and everything. Doing The Unstuck was played for the first time of the year. Maybe as a rememberance of the concert in the same city during the Wish Tour. And certainly a way to celebrate the end of the previous days troubles as well.

29th
Santa Barbara, Bowl
Another great open air concert setting. But this time with a strict and early curfew (10pm !). So the band entered the stage at 7.15pm and started the show in the daylight (which probably explains no Underneath The Stars as an opener). Other Voices and Doing The Unstuck were played again. Robert Smith also had a comment about feeling "so fucking high from all the smoke in the audience." Apparently, Martin Gore attended the show. The soundcheck consisted in A Strange Day, Plainsong, Prayers For Rain, Lovesong.

31st
Hollywood, Bowl
Four encores for a show with a quite impressive setting again. On A Forest, Robert Smith's voice had quite a long delay effect applied to it. Slightly weird and pretty common on this US tour. Trent Reznor attended the concert.

JUNE

01st
Los Angeles, Shrine Auditorium

Simon Gallup's birthday. Great performance with Bloodflowers tracks played for the first time in 2008. Lol Tolhurst and Michael Dempsey attended the show, Simon (through Robert) dedicated Three Imaginary Boys to Lol and the band's first bassist : "(Simon) Says : he (Michael) can play it much better than him". The third encore was announced as follows : "Cause I'm not sure how to play Happy Birthday, we'll do this instead." And Faith included some Happy Birthday lines at the end of the song.

03rd
San Diego, Cox Arena
A bit of a weird start with Plainsong and Porl's guitar going silent but the most unusual fact of the evening occured on Close To Me with Robert Smith giving a microphone to somebody in the front rows and asking him to sing along ! Quite a pressure but resulting in a fun and good version of the song ! Pictures Of You and Play For Today both included improvised verses.

04th
Phoenix, Dodge Theater
Even more songs not played before in America on this tour : Want, The Big Hand. This show actually had another particularity with two b-sides being part of the set list. The US 4Tour was certainly "worth the wait" (having been postponed) for the fans. Rare playing of The Figurehead too.

06th
Dallas, American Airlines Center

08th

Austin, Music Hall
A quite small venue, so tonight's show was certainly for the hardcore fans only as proved the setlist : Torture, The Big Hand, Catch, The Figurehead, The Hanging Garden... Some of these songs being played for the first time of the tour ! Lucky audience.

09th
Houston, Toyota Center
Only playing of A Boy I Never Knew on this North American tour. A deliberate decision. Robert Smith also had some words about him having to pass his driving test and the crowd cheered that announcement. But that was meant as a proof he had nothing "interesting" to say. A Forest was an extended version with extra lyrics at the end of the track.

11th
Tampa, St. Pete Times Forum
The band tried Charlotte Sometimes during the soundcheck. The song would be played live in front of an audience a few days after that. On the show itself, A Forest, was the regular nine minutes version again.

13th

Sunrise, Bank Atlantic Center
Great ending on A Forest, with Simon handing his bass to Robert instead of finishing the song. That probably started by the looks and smiles exchanged before that and resulted in this joke leaving the Cure's singer holding two guitars. Tonight's version was extended with extra lyrics.

15th
Duluth, Gwinnett Center
Rare Other Voices again. Charlotte Sometimes was finally played on this tour after rehearsing the song on the previous days. The last lines on the Only One were sung differently.

16th
Charlotte, Bobcats Arena
The show was filmed by HDNet with multiple cameras. Charlotte Sometimes was played that night too (how strange) but not Lovecats though. Maybe a question of mood since the long awaited "Faith album" encore was played for the first and last time on the tour (and of the year !). Faith was an excellent version with Robert Smith ending the song all alone on guitar and concluding with the line "there's nothing left... but friends". No lyrics from 2Late were sung on the extra part which included the repetitive "I will never understand" & "it's not me".

18th

Cleveland, Wolstein Center
Robert had some words about never telling twice the same joke before Hot Hot Hot. Interesting. Killing Another (KAA) included some improvised lyrics and lots of the regular lines were more or less whispered making the song a bit different than usually but still great.

20th
New York, Madison Square Garden
The show was filmed for FUSE TV. The soundcheck consisted in To Wish Impossible Things, Pictures Of You, Friday I'm In Love, Sleep When I'm Dead, Wrong Number, Close To Me, Underneath The Stars.

21st
New York, Radio Music Hall

Final show if the 4Tour and probably one of the best ones. A great and emotional version of Forever closed the 2007/2008 world tour ("Go, don't go..."). The funniest moment occured on the first encore with Robert Smith climbing the steps to the balcony (like he did in 1996) and singing the following two songs from there ! Miming falling over and declaring he couldn't believe he got there again !
