MARCH
23rd
Miami, Ultra Festival
The
first live appearance of the year (a one-off) was the opportunity to experiment
new things. The band adapted themselves to the "dance" festival
they were performing at, hence some new and unusual loops on songs like
Out Of This World, M or A Forest's quite electronic and interesting intro.
Songs like Wrong Number or The Walk were also revamped with the great work
from Porl on guitar. To balance with the pop singles, The Big Hand was played
for the first time in fifteen years.
Around that time, Robert Smith also collaborated (wrote
lyrics and sang) with Paul Hartnoll (from Orbital) for a track called Please.
JULY
/ AUGUST
More time was dedicated to recording the new album but it wasn't finished
like planned before the summer. So the group started a world tour (called
4Tour) in Australasia since the dates were already booked.
Robert explained it wouldn't make a difference in that part of the world,
since Cure shows were an event by themselves there (only coming every eight
years since 1984) and that the most important were the great moments on
stage.
A date in New Zealand was also added (due to an online petition !). Most
of the times a new version of "Tape" (the Wish Tour shows' intro)
was played before the band entered the stage. Robert Smith changed the line
"Killing An Arab" to "Killing An Other" when performing
the song live. That became the title of the song on the set lists as well.
The live repertoire from this part of the tour included 52 songs :
Killing
An Other (KAA), 10:15 Saturday Night, Boys Don't Cry,Fire In Cairo,
Grinding Halt, Three Imaginary Boys, Jumping Someone Else's Train, Play
For Today, A Forest, M, At Night, Primary, The Drowning Man, Faith,
One Hundred Years, The Figurehead, A Strange Day, Let's Go To Bed,
The Walk, Shake Dog Shake, In Between Days, Kyoto Song, The Blood, Push,
The Baby Screams, Close To Me, A Night Like This, The Kiss,
Catch, If Only Tonight We Could Sleep, Why Can't I Be You ?, How
Beautiful You Are, Just Like Heaven, Hot Hot Hot!!!,
Shiver And Shake, Plainsong, Pictures of You, Lovesong, Lullaby,
Fascination Street, Disintegration,
Never Enough, Open, From The Edge of the Deep
Green Sea, Friday
I'm In Love, A Letter To Elise, End, The Big Hand, Wrong Number, The End
of the World, Us Or Them, alt.end.
OCTOBER
06th
Mountain View, Download Festival
Originally a North American tour was planned for the fall 2007 but was re-scheduled
for spring 2008 for various reasons.
This festival appearance survived to the postponement. The surprises of
the night were a new song (called Please Project -to be known later as The
Only One), Maybe Someday and Signal To Noise. Also worth noting was the
different version of Primary with Robert Smith whispering the words instead
of singing them.
18th
Mexico City, MTV Latin, Los Premios
The group took part of the ceremony on TV by playing two songs
live (Friday I'm In Love & The End Of The World). Robert
Smith was also given an award for being an influencial artist (the actual
shape of the award was a tongue !).
20th
Mexico, Palacio de los Deportes
The audience was as
loud and extatic as in 2004, singing along on all the songs ! Torture, The
Hanging Garden were added to the repertoire. Please Project was played again.
For the first time in 12 years, the band would play a few new tracks long
before the release of a new record.
21st
Mexico, Palacio de los Deportes
The second night was even more surprising with songs
not played for years and years : To Wish Impossible Things, The Holy Hour,
Other Voices ! Without mentioning the track A Boy I Never Knew (an unreleased
song from 2004), and Prayers For Rain.
22nd
Mexico,
Palacio de los Deportes
Another great and different show, opening with songs
from Bloodflowers this time ! Robert Smith also sang Club America (not played
in front of an audience since 1996) normally (ie : no low voice) for the
first time ever. Other rare songs that appeared that night were Bloodflowers
(sounding good without keyboards), Doing The Unstuck (slightly faster beat
than 1992 versions), The Lovecats. Another new track appeared during the
first encore : Don't Say Anything (to be known later as Freakshow). At the
end of the concert, Robert declared it was "fucking wonderful".
GO TO 2008
